Way Of The Morris Soundtrack Of The Month in MOJO

“It’s Autumn, season of morning mists, big coats, damp streets and dark ales and the perfect time to immerse yourself in Adrian Corker’s Way Of The Morris. A moving analysis of the roots of Morris dancing in the village of Adderbury, Tim Plester and Rob Curry doc possessed a melancholy wistfulness, enhanced by this dreamlike score. Corker, who’s worked with director Antonia Bird and collaborated with British composer John Matthias, combines voices of the Adderbury Village Morris Men, with his own minimalist blend of woodwind percussion, vibraphone, drums, piano, strings, bells, electronic warbles and field recordings. Mixed by David Prior, the result is a delicious blend of ancient and modern, a sweet, wheezy companion piece to the Wicker Man soundtrack, possessing a similarly mesmerising folk strangeness.
